How to be conscious of what’s going on?

It happens normally that in a conversation, when one topic lead to another and then that to yet another without any topic being finished and stacks of contextual topics get born obfuscating the original topic. We need to lead back the conversation to home topic rather than get lost in the array of thoughts arising from related topics. To do this we need extra presence from our mind at an abstract higher level that helps guide and correct erratic paths in the flow of conversation.

Actually similar capability is needed in developing concentration to do something. When mind wanders from topic to topic you need to bring it back to home topic, and at the same time keep track of wanderings somewhere because they could be important.
